Step-By-Step Model

Gradually Broadening the Scope

First you define for example whether the PMO should only focus on projects of a certain company division or of the entire company and whether the task at hand is strategic or operational.

The PMO then defines the services. These are for example operational support for the project leaders in the form of a project management coach, trainings, reporting or supervising project portfolio management.

It often makes sense to gradually broaden the scope of the PMO after it has been launched. This is why it is recommendable to create an implementation plan, which also forms the basis for PMO staff requirements.

Addressing the Target Group

The PMO has to define and implement marketing measures that address the target group. Project leaders and management define the new organisational unit. It holds staff briefings, sets up a project leader forum, prepares PMO flyers or creates a PMO website.
