As a powerful RDMS (relational database management system), Microsoft SQL Server naturally constitutes the basis for a great number of company applications such as e.g. SAP ERP, etc. Accordingly, Campana & Schott has also realised a number of SQL server-based solutions in the past ten years: project databases, EPM solutions, SharePoint applications and a lot more. Probably less well known is the fact that the SQL Server can be used directly as an application platform – among other things for realising high-performance management information systems or business intelligence solutions.
This is made possible by specific SQL Server components – in detail:
- SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) set up, administrate and transmit professional reports as printable layouts or as interactive web-based representations.
- SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) supply the tools that provide comprehensive data stocks in multidimensional OLAP cubes for high-performance, flexible analyses. This permits interactive analyses (slicing & dicing, drill-down, etc.) as well as the display of results in high-quality reports with business charts, key performance indicators (KPIs) and more.
- SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) offer a data integration platform with extensive extract/transform/load tools (“ETL”) to integrate heterogeneous data. This makes it possible to consolidate company data from different sources (applications or systems) in an overall data warehouse.
