Microsoft Ignite 2025 – What’s New at Microsoft?

We break down the key announcements from Microsoft Ignite for your organization: Which innovations matter most for your business?

Microsoft Ignite 2025 underscores one thing: Microsoft is accelerating the AI transformation—with a clear focus on Agentic AI. Nearly every major announcement in the Book of News revolves around autonomous AI agents that don’t just assist but act independently. This isn’t a feature update—it’s a paradigm shift.

The Book of News reveals how Microsoft is reshaping its platforms: moving away from isolated AI features toward an integrated agent ecosystem built on governance, security, and data intelligence.

For businesses, this means AI is no longer an “add-on”—it becomes part of the enterprise architecture.

Microsoft is also introducing the concept of the “Frontier Firm” as the new benchmark for organizations in the AI era. Frontier Firms don’t just adopt AI in pockets—they operationalize it across every layer, from strategy to daily workflows. They combine human leadership with agent-driven execution to rethink processes, scale innovation, and secure competitive advantage.

According to Microsoft, Frontier Firms are already achieving significantly higher returns than slow AI adopters. Their success formula includes:

  • AI-first processes instead of simply automating existing workflows

  • Governance and security as the foundation for trusted agents

  • Employee enablement to ensure AI is not just available but truly effective

This makes it essential to act now: expand governance frameworks, adapt your data strategy and security architecture, and empower employees through AI enablement. Only then can you leverage these new capabilities safely and productively.

Note: This is a summary and interpretation of selected updates from the Microsoft Ignite Book of News. You can find the complete Book of News with all announcements here

Key Updates from the Book of News – What Matters for Your Business

Microsoft 365 & Copilot
  • Microsoft 365 Copilot – Work IQ and Agent Mode

New: Copilot is becoming smarter and more context-aware. Work IQ, the new context engine and intelligence layer behind Copilot, leverages organizational data to deliver more precise answers and recommendations. The new Agent Mode enables Word, Excel, and PowerPoint agents to create and edit complex content directly from the chat.

Benefit: Less manual work, faster decisions, better document quality.

Action: Ensure data quality and launch pilot groups for new features.

  • Agent 365 – Governance for the Agent Era

New: Agent 365 is the central platform for managing all AI agents. It provides visibility, policy control, and security features. With Agent ID, agents receive a unique identity that integrates into zero-trust models.

Benefit: Manage AI agents like digital employees, minimize risks, ensure compliance.

Action: Expand governance frameworks and define policies for agents.

  • Employee Experience – AI for Engagement and Productivity

New: New Viva agents for onboarding, feedback, and internal communication.

Benefit: Improved employee experience, faster integration of new hires, higher engagement rates.

Action: Launch AI enablement programs to prepare employees for productive AI use.

Microsoft Fabric
  • Data Strategy – Fabric IQ

New: Fabric IQ provides the semantic foundation for enterprise data and AI. Developers can access this data directly in Foundry to build customized agents.

Benefit: A centralized, reliable data layer and flexible infrastructure make it easier to implement and scale AI solutions.

Action: Review your data strategy, establish a central data platform, and leverage Fabric IQ.

  • SAP – Fabric Connect

New: SAP data can now be connected directly to Microsoft Fabric. Data from the SAP Business Data Cloud can be used for analytics and AI without duplication.

Benefit: Faster analytics, better decision-making, and the ability to train AI models directly on SAP data.

Action: Identify SAP data sources and evaluate integration with Fabric.

  • Finally, Talk to Fabric

New: Fabric Data Agents are integrated with Copilot. Employees can ask questions and access enterprise data directly through the Copilot interface.

Benefit: Data and AI usage becomes simpler and more intuitive—even for teams without IT expertise.

Action: Collect use cases and test Copilot integration with pilot users.

Power Platform
  • Power Platform – Vibe Coding and Copilot-Integration

New: With Vibe Coding, apps can be created using prompts—without traditional programming. Copilot supports data modeling and logic.

Benefit: Business units can develop their own solutions in minutes without overloading IT.

Action: Define governance and connector strategy to avoid shadow IT.

  • Power Automate – Multi-Agent Orchestration

New: Agents orchestrate workflows across multiple systems. Example: A Teams agent interacts with a Jira agent to automatically update project status.

Benefit: End-to-end automation of complex processes without coding.

Action: Identify processes suitable for automation.

Security
  • Security & Compliance – Security Copilot

New: With Predictive Shielding, Security Copilot proactively detects potential attacks. More than 40 new security agents support SOC teams and compliance checks. Additionally, Security Copilot will be included as part of Microsoft 365 E5 licenses.

Benefit: Reduced risks when using AI and automated security processes.

Action: Extend your security architecture to address AI-specific risks.

Additional Highlights
  • New specialized agents: for various business scenarios, including sales development, HR and learning agents, as well as SharePoint agents for automated page and list creation.

  • Sora2 integration: Copilot will soon be able to create AI-generated videos with sound and music—ideal for marketing and internal communications.

  • Voice control: Copilot understands voice commands in Microsoft 365 apps, making interactions even more intuitive (e.g., email triage or meeting scheduling).

  • Windows 365 for agents: A secure cloud PC option for running agents in isolated environments.

  • Copilot Pages & SharePoint integration: Create SharePoint pages and lists directly from the Copilot chat.

  • App Builder Agent: In Power Apps, entire applications can be built using natural language—a step beyond Vibe Coding.

  • Security dashboard for AI: Real-time visibility into AI risks for CISOs and IT security teams.

  • Enhanced Entra features: Passkeys and new Passkey Profiles for secure authentication, plus Internet Access for AI with protection against prompt injection and shadow AI detection.

  • Purview updates: AI-powered Data Security Posture Management and automated compliance checks.

  • Defender innovations: Integration with GitHub Advanced Security and new Threat Hunting Agents for end-to-end investigation.
