New data platform for Transgourmet

Transgourmet, a leading company in wholesale food distribution, has successfully completed a major digital transformation project together with Campana & Schott: the integration of a modern data platform across its various country organizations.

Transgourmet’s primary objective was to elevate the quality of its reporting and make it available company-wide across different countries. In the medium term, the initiative also aimed to lay the groundwork for future applications involving artificial intelligence and further data integrations.

Specifically, Transgourmet aimed to make data from various systems available in Power BI to simplify report creation. A key requirement was that the solution should also validate the data. As a result, Transgourmet set out to find the technical expertise needed for such a unique project—and found it in Campana & Schott.

The initial situation was as follows: Transgourmet had just completed an ERP system migration. However, only a provisional infrastructure was in place for processing and transforming data into reports. As a result, both the architecture of the existing data platform and the downstream reporting needed to be fundamentally redesigned.

The data engineering experts at Campana & Schott recommended Microsoft Fabric as the data platform in order to make the best possible use of the existing Power BI infrastructure. Within this environment, a modern lakehouse architecture based on a data lake and Apache Spark was implemented.

Country organizations can now access a central data platform where they can develop their own reports based on a “single source of truth.” In addition, the platform now serves as an enabler for AI use cases and can deliver direct value through integrated features such as GraphQL—without requiring extensive development efforts.
